How Should Automatic Dive Watches Undergo Daily Maintenance? Essential Tips for Mens Watches and Luxury Dive Watches

Company News

How much do you know about mechanical watches? In fact, a mechanical watch is a very delicate mechanical object. If you want its service life to be longer, you need to understand some of its daily maintenance knowledge and regularly carry out maintenance and repair.

Daily Winding and Care for Automatic Dive Watches

1. It is best to wind it up at a fixed time every day (for manual mechanical watches), with one full stroke. The speed of the windup knob should be appropriate and not too tight. If wound too tight, the spring inside the movement may get stuck due to oil buildup in the spring box. When the spring relaxes, it's vulnerable to breaking from excessive elasticity. For automatic movement watches, wearing them daily helps maintain the movement’s energy.

Protecting the Delicate Movement and Components

2. The most delicate parts in the watch movement belong to the pendulum and hairspring. The swing wheel axis is very thin, about 0.10mm, and rotates at high speed within the mechanical movement. Because of this, it’s best to remove your dive watch or automatic dive watches during activities that involve violent shaking or sharp impacts. Additionally, dive watches depend heavily on their water resistance, but they are still vulnerable to water immersion. It is advisable to remove the watch when washing clothes, washing hands, or doing any work that involves water. If you notice fog or water spots under the sapphire crystal or watch glass, repair it promptly to avoid damage to the mechanical movement.

3. Do not open the watch case back at will to prevent dust and particles from entering the movement. Avoid unnecessary handling of internal parts. If there is a malfunction, please send it to a professional watchmaker or authorized service center for repair in a timely manner.

Preventing Magnetization and Maintaining Accuracy

4. A common malfunction of mechanical watches, including tool watches like the Omega Seamaster or other luxury dive watches, is inaccurate timing due to accidental magnetization of the movement. To avoid this, when not wearing your automatic dive watch, do not place it near electrical appliances such as TVs or audio systems that contain magnets. Also, avoid storing your dive watch alongside camphor, as camphor is highly volatile and can solidify the grease inside the movement, negatively impacting performance.

Maintaining the Exterior: Crystal, Bezel, and Bracelet Care

5. Protect the watch lens, often made of durable sapphire crystal, which offers excellent scratch resistance and clarity. Avoid rubbing it against sharp objects or exposure to high pressure, heat, and harsh chemical reagents that could damage the case finishing or the ceramic bezel. For minor scratches on the crystal, toothpaste applied gently with a soft cloth can help buff them out, but avoid alcohol-based cleaners to protect the lume and crystal coating. Regular cleaning of the bracelet and case, especially if your dive watch has a stainless steel 316L case and bracelet, helps maintain the overall aesthetic and function.

By following these maintenance tips, whether you own a rugged automatic dive watch within a reasonable price range or a luxurious Omega Seamaster, you can ensure your mechanical movement remains accurate and your watch continues to perform well under water-resistant conditions.
